Constitution at Work
Directions Page

Project Directions:  You need to locate five news articles that illustrate constitutional principles.  The principles include separation of powers, federalism, checks and balances, popular sovereignty and flexibility as illustrated through the amendments.

·         Two of the articles should illustrate TWO different principles such as separation of powers, federalism, checks and balances and/or popular sovereignty

·         Two of the articles should illustrate TWO different amendments from the Bill of Rights (Amendments 1- 10)

·         One article should illustrate an amendment from the remaining amendments (Amendments 11 - 27)

Either print from the internet or cut out the article from the newspaper.  Be sure to keep track of your sources and include them in proper MLA format in a bibliography.

Use either a word processing program or hand write a short summary of the article in two to three sentences.  Provide a clear definition of the constitutional principle or amendment that is illustrated in the article.  Write an in-depth analysis that explains how the principle or amendment is illustrated.  For example, if the article mentions that the President suggested a particular program then fully explain how a bill becomes a law and address which part of the process is illustrated in the news article.
