Ribbit's Lake Bass Population Study
Home Page
The Ribbit's Lake Bass Population Study is a simulation based on a real-life study of changes in Adirondack Lake large mouth bass population over six years. In 1986 NYS enacted a special regulation for a few Adirondack lakes. The minimum keeper size for large mouth bass was increased to 15 inches. The thought was that this increase would result in an increased percentage of larger bass in each lake and a decreased percentage of smaller bass. David M. Green (Cornell University Biological Field Station) conducted a study (Evaluation of Experimental Angling Regulations for Bass, 1993) that assessed the effectiveness of the regulation. For six years, volunteer anglers  marked and recorded all of their large mouth bass catches (catch, mark, and release). They supplied Dr. Green with their data at the end of each fishing season.

Ribbit's Lake Bass Population Study is a simulation roughly based on a small portion of Dr. Green's results. You will record all data in your Population Dynamics packet.
