 Dedication
Ribbit's
Math Ventures is dedicated to the memory of Susan H. Burgess (1955 - 1993). Sue was a PhD
industrial engineer, a pioneer of the total quality management movement, author, artist,
clown, and my older sister. Always eager to share knowledge, skill, and time, Sue was a
natural teacher. She never gave straight out, but made her learners think for their
answers. The "creature" drawings throughout this site are all of Sue's style
(however not nearly as well drawn) as she had taught me to draw. The frog was a special
trademark of Sue's and Ribbit is actually a clown character that she developed and
personified, entertaining and teaching multitudes of children throughout her years. Sue
died of brain cancer in September 1993. Her spirit lives on in the work of those lucky
enough to have had the opportunity to learn from her.
