Page C66 from your textbook tells about air pressure.

A barometer measures air pressure. Cold air weighs more than warm air. A cold air mass has high pressure. A warm air mass has low pressure. Changing air pressure can be used to predict changes in weather. When barometric (air) pressure rises, fair weather is predicted. When barometric (air) pressure falls, stormy weather is predicted.
Use the paragraph above and your text page C66 in order to complete this concept map.

Here are the concept words:

barometer

heavy

warm air masses

rise

On your worksheet, fill in the
words in the correct concept
boxes.

Use Pinewood's Hourly Weather Data for Today in order to complete 1 - 5.
1. Complete the following chart for the past 5 hours.
Date:
Time Pressure  (in "Hg)

2. Display your data with a line graph.

3. Look outside. What is the current cloud cover? Circle one:

Sunny               Partly cloudy                Partly sunny               Cloudy

4. Look at your barometric pressure data.

Is the pressure rising, falling, or staying the same?

5. Based on the current conditions and air pressure data over the past 5 hours,
what type of weather may be coming this way?
